Cyclist dies after being struck by car in Maroubra

A cyclist has been killed after being struck by a car in the beachside Sydney suburb of Maroubra.

The man was struck on Fitzgerald Avenue just after 6.30am and died at the scene. 

The cause of the crash is not yet known and the victim is yet to be formally identified. 

The driver of the car was uninjured and will undergo mandatory alcohol and drug testing. 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area, with sections of Fitzgerald Avenue, Bunnerong Road, Wild Street, Donovan Avenue and Walsh Avenue affected by closures.
