A critical incident investigation has been launched. (9NEWS) 

A critical incident investigation has been launched after a man was seriously injured when he jumped from a balcony in Neutral Bay overnight, as police tried to negotiate with him.

The 34-year-old suffered serious injuries after emergency services were called to the apartment complex in Sydney's north.

The man allegedly acted aggressively towards officers, and tried to jump onto another balcony when officers tried to use a Taser on him.

He landed on the balcony and was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

A critical incident team will now investigate the circumstances.
