Council to build memorial for Steph Scott

A memorial chair and plaque will be erected at the central-west NSW hometown of murdered school teacher Stephanie Scott.

The 26-year-old English and drama teacher was killed in the NSW Riverina town of Leeton in April, less than a week before she was due to marry her fiance.

Cabonne Council said the memorial would be installed at the Canowindra swimming pool where Ms Scott worked as a swimming instructor while growing up in the town.

"Nothing will ease the pain for Stephanie and Aaron's families, but it will be fitting to have a memorial to her at a place where she had a great attachment," Cabonne Mayor Ian Gosper said on Thursday.

Her accused murderer Vincent Stanford remains behind bars.

Stanford, 24, is accused of sexually assaulting and murdering the bride-to-be on April 5 in Leeton.

His twin brother, Marcus Stanford, has been charged with being an accessory after the fact, after Vincent allegedly sent him items belonging to Ms Scott after her death.

The men appeared briefly in Griffith Local Court on Wednesday, where their matters were adjourned until November 25.

Neither applied for bail and it was formally refused.

A council spokesman said Ms Scott's family was working with the council to finalise the design and he's confident the memorial will be erected this summer.
