Coroner to consider Lindt siege evidence

A coroner will piece together the circumstances surrounding the Lindt cafe siege after public hearings wrapped up in Sydney.

NSW Coroner Michael Barnes, who has presided over the long-running inquest into the deadly 2014 siege which called its final witness on Wednesday, must now determine exactly what happened and what could have been done differently.

The inquest heard 123 witness accounts over 109 sitting days between January 2015 and August this year.

Harrowing evidence provided a glimpse into the hostages' ordeal, while evidence has emerged that police negotiators were hamstrung by a litany of resourcing problems.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, his deputy Cath Burn and acting Deputy Commissioner Jeff Loy all denied having operational or decision-making roles and insisted they gave no orders to their subordinates.

While it's not clear how long Mr Barnes will take to consider the evidence, a catch-up hearing will be held on September 7.
