Missing Newcastle girl, 14, found safe and well

Missing Newcastle girl Tara Hipwell has been found safe and well in Newcastle's west, a week after disappearing.

Tara, 14, was last seen leaving San Clemente High School in Mayfield in Newcastle's northwest last Thursday afternoon.

There were a number of reported sightings of Tara following her disappearance, including from as far away as Singleton, about 75km away.

However, she was found in Wallsend, less than 10km away, at 2.25pm.

Police thanked the public for their assistance.
