Cleo website gone but mag remains: Bauer

The future of Cleo remains uncertain despite a spokesman for publisher Bauer Media saying a report the magazine is set to close "is complete speculation".

News Corp reports claimed that staff would be told of the closure of the 42-year-old magazine on Friday.

"The closure of Cleo is complete speculation at this point in time," said a Bauer Media spokesman.

He said the magazine's website was closed in November due to the Cleo brand being less recognisable overseas compared to mastheads like Cosmopolitan.

A Media Entertainment Arts Alliance spokesman said the union had been unable to confirm the magazine's closure.
