Former NRL star Rhys Wesser has walked from a Sydney court after charges relating to allegations of domestic violence were dropped.

Mr Wesser, 36, was facing two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm over allegations he bashed girlfriend Simone Kenmore and dragged her down a flight of stairs at their Newtown unit last October.

But when she failed to appear at a hearing at Newtown Local Court on Monday afternoon both charges were withdrawn and dismissed.

Police had subpoenaed Ms Kenmore, who is in Adelaide, but couldn't guarantee she would appear if the matter was adjourned, the court heard.

Magistrate Margaret Quinn formally withdrew and dismissed the charges.

Mr Wesser left court soon after flanked by one of his lawyers but didn't comment.
