Car linked to NSW shooting murder

Police have released CCTV footage of a car they believe was used in the fatal drive-by shooting of a car enthusiast on the NSW Central Coast last year.

It's believed at least three men with links to an outlaw bikie gang gunned down 29-year-old Laurie Starling on July 24 outside his car restoration business in West Gosford.

Mr Starling was a popular figure in the motor industry and involved with the annual Canberra-based motor festival Summernats.

On Tuesday police said they are looking for a silver or grey 2013 Toyota Corolla hatchback.

The State Crime Command officer in charge of the case, Inspector Grant Taylor, said three males were in the car.

In November Det Insp Taylor said that police had very strong leads in the case.

"We're also confident that the people who committed the actual shooting are not from the Central Coast," he said.

Police are examining records of all Toyota Corollas that fit the description.

"The car was captured on CCTV travelling towards Narara on the Central Coast and it's believed the vehicle travelled to Sydney soon after Mr Starling was murdered," he said.

While the shooters have been linked with a bikie gang, the 29-year-old victim was not known to police, who previously said he appeared to be the victim of a brutal and callous murder.

The shooting is believed to have been targeted.

Mr Starling, described by his family as a gentle giant, was leaving his business The Chop Shop when he was gunned down in the driveway just after 7.30pm.

His death sent shockwaves through the motoring community.

Locals said in July that the street was a popular haunt for Rebels club members.
