A little girl is unharmed after a car crashed through her bedroom wall as she slept in southern Sydney, with the driver fleeing.

The car flattened the fence and punched a hole in the brick wall of the Rockdale home overnight, with the mother of the four-year-old girl grateful she escaped unscathed.

"She was in the bedroom. Thank God her bed is on the opposite side. So it's literally come straight through the wardrobe into the bedroom and thank God she's okay," Francesca told the Nine Network on Wednesday.

The mother said she talked with the driver, who stumbled out of the car, and refused to show her his licence.

"He had no idea where he was, which suburb, that's all he was concerned about," she said.

The young girl, who celebrated her fourth birthday on Tuesday, is with neighbours, Francesca said.

Forensic police have removed the car and a dog squad is helping search for the man, who's believed to be in his 30s or 40s.
