Cannabis lab found in NSW home: police

A man is due to face court after police allegedly found a sophisticated drug lab at a home in the NSW Illawarra region.

Police were speaking to a 38-year-old man inside a home at Mount St Thomas on Monday afternoon when it's alleged they saw a small amount of cannabis on a coffee table.

After applying for a search warrant, police say they found 3.8kg of cannabis, 21 cannabis plants, and a sophisticated hydroponic set-up used for drying out cannabis, inside the home.

It's alleged the house had also been modified with fans, ventilation pipes, an irrigation system and power outlets.

The man was charged with several drug offences including conducting a drug premises and is due to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on May 12.

The seized plants had an estimated street value of $107,400, police said.
