A Good Samaritan has been stabbed after he stepped in to stop an armed robbery at a southwest Sydney convenience store.

Police say the man went into the shop on Railway Parade in Glenfield just after 10am Monday after hearing raised voices and confronted an armed man, who stabbed him once in the lower back before fleeing on foot.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and transferred to hospital in a stable condition, while police hunt for the attacker.
