Boys mauled by hunting dogs at NSW home

Two teenage boys mauled by two pig-hunting dogs at a northwestern NSW home have been taken to hospital.

The boys, 15 and 16, were heading into a birthday party at a Lightning Ridge home on Wednesday evening when one of the dogs broke its chain and attacked.

A second dog, which remained tethered, also attacked the boys, police said.

Authorities described the dogs as "pigging" type dogs.

The 15-year-old was left with deep cuts on his left arm and chest and back injuries and required 27 sutures when he arrived at hospital.

The other boy suffered minor lacerations and a small puncture wound to his left hamstring.

He was given a tetanus jab.

Police and council rangers are investigating.
