Boy, 14, charged with Sydney needle attack

A teenage boy will face court next month after allegedly pricking a group of students with a needle at a western Sydney high school.

The 14-year-old was arrested by police at a home in Glendenning on Thursday night and charged with five counts of assault.

He is accused of pricking eight students - all about 14 years old - in their thighs, limbs and hands in what police initially believed was a "prank gone wrong".

The teenage victims were taken to a nearby medical centre and a hospital for urgent blood tests, and now face an anxious wait for the results.

The puncture wounds sustained by the children were "minimal" and the risks of infection low, NSW Ambulance Acting Inspector Joe Ibrahim said on Thursday.

But there are unconfirmed reports the needle had been found by the student at a bus stop - meaning it may not be clean.

The boy was granted bail and will appear at a children's court on November 6.
