A 10-year-old is one of three boys charged with an armed break-in at a NSW supermarket in the middle of the night.

The boys were allegedly armed with a knife and a screwdriver when they broke into a supermarket at Taree, about 300km north of Sydney, around 3.30am on Wednesday.

The boys, aged 10, 13 and 16, are accused of trying to steal items from the store.

The 10-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear at Children's Court in April, while the other two will appear before a Children's Court on Thursday.
