Body found in search for missing Sydney mother after son charged with murder

A body has been found in bushland in the search for a missing mother from Sydney after her son was charged with murder.

Sandra Popovic, 58, was reported missing on June 9 after she left her home in the city’s west.

Family members had last heard from the 58-year-old at about 4.50pm on June 8 when she said she was going to meet a relative in Winston Hills.

Her car was found on Dodson Street in Winston Hills the next morning at about 9.30am, which prompted them to launch a search for the mother.

Two days later, her son Ante Popovic, 34, was arrested at Tomerong on the NSW South Coast.

He has since been charged with her murder and remains before the court.

Multiple emergency services crews were involved in the search for the body including the NSW Police rescue and bomb disposal unit, the NSW Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service and the Volunteer Rescue Association.

Man charged with murdering mother in alleged Sydney kidnapping

Crews found a body in bushland at Mount Banks in the Blue Mountains National Park over the weekend.

While the body is yet to be formally identified, police believe it belongs to the missing mother.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
