Body found at Sydney's lower north shore

The body of an elderly man has been found floating near Spit Bridge on Sydney's lower north shore.

Emergency services were called to Spit Road in Mosman on Thursday night where they found the body of a man floating in Middle Harbour, about 50 metres away from the bridge, police said.

The man has not yet been formally identified but police believe he was aged in his 70s or 80s.

A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
