Ballina man, 73, dies in light plane crash

An elderly Ballina man has died in hospital after his ultra light aircraft crashed in a paddock on the far north coast of NSW.

Emergency services were called to a property in Knockrow, inland from Lennox Head, just after 9am on Monday.

Witnesses told police the aircraft appeared to stall before crashing to the ground.

The 73-year-old pilot was the sole occupant of the plane.

He sustained multiple injuries and was transported to Gold Coast Hospital but died on Monday night.

Recreational Aviation Australia are determining the exact circumstances surrounding the crash while police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
