Baird remembers flood victims and veterans

Diggers Colin Webb, 79 and Brian Wilson, 72, had plans to march with their fellow war veterans on Anzac Day, when flash floods ripped through the small town of Dungog in the NSW Hunter.

The two men, along with 68-year-old Robin MacDonald, died as the surging water swept through the town on Tuesday morning.

NSW Premier Mike Baird acknowledged the ex-servicemen during a commemoration service in Sydney's Hyde Park on Saturday.

Before the crowd of thousands who gathered around the Pool Of Remembrance, Mr Baird paid homage to soldiers past and present, including the victims of the floods.

"There were two veterans that were intending to march and aren't here," Mr Baird said, the sound of bagpipes in the distance.

One of the men, Mr Wilson, was a Vietnam War veteran, while Mr Webb was a former national serviceman.

"We want to say to their family and friends, we are sorry for their tragic loss," Mr Baird said.

NSW Governor David Hurley also attended the service at the Anzac War Memorial, as a four-hour march through the CBD came to a close.
