Baird popularity hits new high: poll

NSW Premier Mike Baird remains Australia's most popular politician while his Labor counterpart's standing has hit new lows, the latest Newspoll shows.

Opposition Leader Luke Foley's satisfaction rating has dropped four percentage points to 31 per cent, compared to Mr Baird's 61 per cent, according to the poll released Thursday.

Mr Foley is preferred by just 15 per cent of voters, with 58 per cent of voters preferring Mr Baird.

The Baird Coalition government's two-party-preferred result is meanwhile unchanged at 56-44 per cent, the poll published in the Australian showed.

Mr Baird remains the nation's most popular politician, with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull as his rival.

The NSW premier continues to be Australia's most popular leader because so few people dislike him, the poll found.

Mr Baird's dissatisfaction rating is just 22 per cent.

Mr Turnbull's satisfaction rating sits at 52 per cent, down eight per cent, after a bumpy end to 2015 with the defection of Ian Macfarlane to the Nationals and controversy surrounding Mal Brough.
