Bail refused for alleged gang rapist

A teenager accused of being part of the "gang rape" of a 14-year-old girl in a Sydney park has been denied bail.

Michael Angok is one of four youths accused of raping the girl at a park at Doonside, in Sydney's west in February last year.

A Supreme Court bail application on Tuesday heard Angok denies being present when the alleged pack rape took place.

But the crown alleges his semen was found inside a condom and his DNA was found of the victim's shirt.

Angok's defence lawyer Mark Klees was interrupted by Justice Michael Adams when he said the case would come down to issues of consent.

"Consent? A 14-year-old ... in a park with four men," Justice Adams said.

"I'm sure a jury will be able to deal with that.

"She says she's been raped."

Mr Klees said his client, who has already spent a year in custody, faced a lengthy prison sentence if convicted and should be released into the care of his father until his trial next year.

But Justice Adams said Angok was "charged with a very serious offence of what some might say, in the vernacular, was a gang rape of a 14-year-old" and that he must assess the bail application based on the police investigation.

Angok was denied bail and the matter is next due to appear in court next year.
