Baby sharks make public debut

Two baby sharks have made their public debut at Manly Sea Life Sanctuary.

The Port Jackson and Crested Horn sharks, between 15 and 20 centimetres in length, are expected to grow up to 1.6 metres.

Ten Port Jackson sharks and three Crested Horn sharks have been born in recent months at the aquarium.

"Births like these prove that breeding programs like ours are crucial to help not only ensure the survival of these beautiful creatures but also educate the public on their important place in the ecosystem," Manly Sea Life Sanctuary marine biologist Hope Nugent said.

The baby sharks made their public debut on Thursday and have now returned to the quarantine area.

They will be watched by marine biologists until they are large enough for public display.
