Two defence personnel have been injured after the Army 4WD they were travelling in rolled following a head-on collision in NSW's Central West.

A Hyundai SUV crossed to the opposite side of the road on the Mitchell Highway, east of Trangie, before colliding with the Australian Army-owned 4WD on Friday afternoon, police say.

The 4WD, which had six army personnel inside, rolled several times.

Two sustained minor injuries and were taken to Dubbo Base Hospital.

The male and female occupants of the SUV were treated for suspected internal injuries and taken to the same hospital.

NSW Fire and Rescue HAZMAT visited the incident site to contain a spill from one of the vehicles.
