Alleged Sydney dope grower charged

A man allegedly involved in a western Sydney drug supply syndicate has been charged a week after more than $3 million of cannabis was seized from a hydroponic warehouse in the city's northwest.

Police from the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad last Thursday found 723 cannabis plants at the Riverstone warehouse and on Friday they charged a 39-year-old Campbelltown man with several offences relating to the large scale cultivation and supply of prohibited drugs.

The warehouse was divided into seven separate rooms, each containing lighting, water filtration systems, air-conditioning and chemicals associated with the indoor growth of plants, police said earlier.

The plants, 643 of which were mature, have an estimated value of $3.4 million.

The man appeared at Campbelltown Local Court on Friday and he was remanded.

Investigations continue.
