Alleged Sydney axe attacker to stand trial

A woman accused of trying to murder three people with an axe at a Sydney service station has been committed to stand trial.

Evie Amati, 25, is facing six charges including three counts of causing wounding with intent to murder.

She allegedly wielded an axe in an apparently random attack in Enmore in the early hours of January 7 which left two victims with head injuries.

At Central Local Court on Tuesday, Amati - who appeared via audio-visual link from a Cessnock jail - waived her right to a committal hearing.

She was committed to stand trial by Magistrate Les Mabbutt and is due to face Downing Centre District Court on September 8 to fix a trial date.

Amati is also expected to appear at the Supreme Court on Friday for a bail hearing.
