Strikeforce Trawler swooped on the man at the Coffs Harbour beach after conducting a convert online investigation.

Detectives allege he'd been engaging in sexually charged online conversations with an underage Victorian girl since 2016.

NSW investigators had been monitoring his movements since earlier this year after a tip-off from their Victorian counterparts.

Surveillance revealed the man had arranged to meet up with the girl, NSW Police said in a statement on Monday.

Video of the arrest shows a balding but heavily bearded man in a bright Hawaiian shirt and sandals being led from the windy beach by detectives in handcuffs.

Police seized three mobile phones and a computer tablet while searching his car.

A subsequent search of a Stuarts Point home - about an hour south of Coffs Harbour - resulted in the seizure of computers, a laptop, hard drives and ammunition.

The 37-year-old was charged with two counts of trying to procure a person under 16 for sex.
