A NSW man has been ordered to stand trial over the alleged historical murder of a well-known greyhound racing bookmaker.

Terry John Gordon Hickson, 59, was arrested in November 2017 and charged with the violent murder of 72-year-old Charles Skarratt, who was found dead in the garage of his Woolwich home in December 1989.

In Sydney's Central Local Court on Wednesday, magistrate Sharon Freund committed Hickson to stand trial in the NSW Supreme Court. He is due to be arraigned on February 8.
