Former plane-bomb suspect in court over taser

A man arrested after an alleged plot to blow up a passenger flight at Sydney airport has appeared in court on a charge of possessing a homemade taser.

Khaled Merhi was arrested during a raid on his Cleveland Street home in July last year and later charged with possessing a prohibited weapon.

The 40-year-old said nothing as he left court on bail, but inside his lawyer indicated he may plead guilty when the case resumes.

After a police search of his property, Mr Merhi was detained for seven days and then released without being charged over the plot to bring down a plane with a bomb concealed in a meat mincer.

He was one of four men detained over the alleged plot.

Mr Merhi will appear again in court on March 29 for sentencing.
