A NSW man accused of stabbing another driver to death after a car crash will remain behind bars after his matter was mentioned in court.

Justin Fuller, 32, didn't apply for bail on Thursday when the matter went before Newcastle Local Court and it was formally refused.

He was charged with murder after a car crash south of Newcastle on Wednesday afternoon led to a man being stabbed to death.
