An angry pedestrian has left a young woman jarred and shaken after he took it upon himself to aggressively enforce a trial smoking ban in place in Sydney's CBD.

Video of the incident shows the young woman strolling through Martin Place while smoking a cigarette, presumably unaware that a trial ban on smoking in the iconic and storied square has been in place since May.

Evidently this fact was clear and present in the mind of another pedestrian.

"Smoking is illegal in Martin Place. Put it out!" the fellow roars, visibly shocking the unsuspecting woman.

"Put out your cigarette," he bellows.

"You are breaking the law!"

The woman nervously complies.

"I haven’t broken anything," she replies meekly.

"I’ve just put it out," she says as the man, satisfied with the result of his rant, goes on his way.

The 12-month trial smoking ban in Martin Place, which began on May 11, was introduced after a survey of both smokers and non-smokers deemed the area less pleasant because of cigarette fumes.
