A dog has attacked a five-year-old boy at his home in NSW's Central Coast, leaving him with injuries to his face.

Police say the dog, believed to be the family's Rhodesian Ridgeback, was secured after the attack last night and that officers will liaise with the local council about what to do with it.

The boy was initially taken to Gosford Hospital but has now been taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead for further treatment.
