Police crack national crime syndicate

Authorities have cracked a organised crime syndicate with tentacles up and down Australia's eastern seaboard, after seizing $4.3 million in cash and $27 million in drugs.

Garbage and sports bags of cash were found in a plush Sydney CBD apartment last Thursday.

It came shortly after a 25-year-old man, who allegedly held an access key to the "safe house", was caught exchanging a bag with $200,000 in cash to another man, 41, at Clyde railway station.

Police will allege in court the man receiving the bag of cash planned to take it to a money remitter.

It will also be alleged there were similar plans to put the $4.1 million in cash found in the CBD unit through remitters in $200,000 lots.

Police believe a lot of the $4.3 million seized was destined to go offshore either to allegedly buy drugs or generate profits for the syndicate.

Detectives also found an array of drugs, including 25kg of ice and 280 LSD tabs, at the flat.

The Australian Crime Commission's (ACC) Warren Gray said the methamphetamine seized would have equated to 250,000 hits on the street.

Organised Crime Squad Detective Superintendent Scott Cook said intelligence showed the syndicate had links to Queensland and Victoria.

"We are still looking for a few people we believe are involved," he said on Wednesday.

"So our net will be cast up and down the eastern seaboard."

The cash haul was the second largest the ACC has made under Task Force Eligo.

"The trail of money is like DNA, organised crime leave it everywhere," Mr Gray said.

The two men, from Queensland and Melbourne, were charged with money laundering offences and will appear in court later this month.

The 25-year-old was also charged with drug supply.
