14 paper tickets to go for Sydneysiders

Sydney commuters will no longer be able to buy some paper tickets to use the city's public transport as the Opal card takes over.

Fourteen paper tickets - including weekly, monthly and yearly adult train passes - will not be for sale from Monday.

MyFerry travel ten passes for adult travellers will also be phased out.

Instead passengers will have to use Sydney's new electronic tap and go Opal cards.

However, paper tickets bought before September 1 will still be valid until the expiry date.

Some paper tickets, including single and returns, will still be sold from September 1 but will be "retired progressively" with the Opal rollout, NSW Transport says.

Transport Minister Gladys Berejiklian has warned commuters to plan ahead to avoid long queues for tickets on Monday morning.
