Daughter charged with alleged stabbing murder of mother

A woman has been charged with allegedly stabbing her elderly mother to death south of Newcastle last night.

The body of a 73-year-old woman was found in a home at Redhead, Lake Macquarie, by police after they were called to the address just before 6.30pm.

The woman had suffered multiple stab wounds, according to police.

Her 36-year-old daughter was arrested at the scene and taken to Charleston Police Station.

She was later charged with murder.

She was refused bail and is due to appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
