Man and woman held captive in machete siege on Mid North NSW coast

A 34-year-old man has been charged after allegedly holding another man and a woman captive with a machete on the Mid North NSW coast.

The incident unfolded at a home on Keith Moses Crescent, West Kempsey about 2am yesterday.

Officers secured a perimeter around the house and called in assistance from specialist police, including police negotiators and the Tactical Operations Unit.

Just after 2pm officers managed to gain entry to the home and a Taser was discharged.

A 34-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with eight offences, including domestic violence.

The charges include, detain person with intent to obtain advantage cause actual bodily harm (DV), reckless wounding (DV), offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence and use an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

The man has been refused bail to appear before Kempsey Local Court today

The couple involved in the ordeal - a man and a woman aged in their 50s - escaped with minor injuries.

Initial inquiries suggest all three were known to each other.
