NSW regions compete for upgrade money

The upgrades of airports, hospital and sewerage works in regional NSW are among the projects vying for millions of dollars worth of government grants this year.

Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner announced the shortlist of 19 projects that could receive funding under the second round of the Resources for Regions program 2013-14.

Up to $78 million will be split between the successful projects, which were shortlisted for their capacity to help boost economic growth and productivity, ease infrastructure constraints, and support NSW communities affected by mining, Mr Stoner said.

The shortlist includes a $2.5 million upgrade for Cobar Airport's runway and lighting, and $10 million for Lithgow City Council to replace the waste water treatment plant at Portland.

If successful, the Hunter New England Local Health District could receive up to $20 million for an upgrade of Muswellbrook Hospital.

Applicants will now be invited to submit a full proposal.
