NSW Premier Mike Baird considering softening greyhound policy
NSW Premier Mike Baird is ‘seriously considering’ softening his policy on the greyhound racing industry, possibly putting off the ban until 2020, due to an expected voter backlash at the upcoming Orange by-election.
Polling shows the government is facing a swing of at least 15 percent against the National party in Orange, a result that would almost certainly end Troy Grant’s leadership of the party.
“I’m ruling out the possibility that I’m going to make any changes other than what I think is the right one,” Mr Baird today told reporters.
“There’s no doubt that Orange will be a challenge, that’s very clear.”
MP’s in marginal seats are nervous and openly questioning the ban.
A backflip on the greyhound ban could see Mr Baird’s resignation.
