The identity of the officer or the alleged victim has not been revealed, and the nature of the image is not known.

The policewoman is attached to a Southern Region command, NSW Police confirmed.

It comes after officers in the Murray River Police District began an investigation earlier this month.

The officer was issued a future court attendance notice yesterday.

She is due to face Albury Local Court on September 10.
