NSW police investigating fatal shooting of government worker

Police are investigating the shooting-death of a man in northern NSW.

Officers said they found the body of a 51-year-old at a property 55km north of Moree at around 5:40pm after emergency services were called to the area.

Fairfax Media reported the man was a NSW Department of Environment and Heritage worker who had been serving a notice at the property in relation to the clearing of vegetation.

Police said a post mortem examination would officially determine how the man died.

A 79-year-old Moree man has been arrested over the incident.
