Teen charged with attempted murder over Lake Illawarra machete attack
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a man’s hand was partially severed during a machete attack on the NSW South Coast last week.
Police allege a 25-year-old man was approached by a male carrying a machete in the rear courtyard of a property on Northcliffe Drive, Warrawong at about 4.20am last Tuesday.

After inquiries, a 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged with GBH assault with intent to murder. He was refused bail. 9news
He was allegedly struck in the arm and legs with the bladed weapon before running from the location.
Police and NSW Ambulance officers attended a short time later and the victim was rushed to Wollongong Hospital for emergency surgery to reattach his hand.
Following inquiries, officers from Lake Illawarra Police District arrested and charged a 16-year-old boy this morning, with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.
He appeared at Port Kembla Children’s Court today and was refused bail.
His next court appearance will be on Tuesday May 28.
The victim was rushed to Wollongong Hospital where he required emergency surgery to re-attach his severed hand. 9news
