NSW man charged over gun threat

A man has been charged after a mother and her son were threatened with a firearm during a break in at a home in the Lake Illawarra region of NSW.

At about 10pm on Tuesday, a 22-year-old man answered a knock at the front door of his home on Viola Way at Barrack Heights on NSW's south coast and was confronted by a man who allegedly demanded money.

The occupant's mother came to his aid before they were both threatened with a firearm.

The man allegedly stole a computer before fleeing.

Detectives arrested a man at a home on View Street at Lake Illawarra on Wednesday morning. A firearm was seized from a car parked outside the home.

The 34-year-old has been charged with special aggravated break and enter, and committing a serious indictable offence while armed.

He was also charged with multiple firearms-related offences and was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court Thursday.
