NSW Liberals decide Senate ticket

The NSW Liberal Party has finalised its joint Senate ticket with the Nationals, with Defence Minister Marise Payne taking top spot, followed by cabinet secretary Arthur Sinodinos.

International Development minister Concetta Fierravanti-Wells takes fourth position, after Nationals' Regional Development Minister Fiona Nash.

Nationals Senator John Williams takes fifth spot, followed by Liberals Hollie Hughes and Jim Molan in seventh place.

Under the coalition agreement, the Liberal Party takes positions 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12 and the Nationals the other places.

The coalition currently holds six NSW Senate places. In sixth spot, newcomer Ms Hughes, vice-president of the NSW Liberal Party and a campaigner for disability rights, could expect to be elected.

With a strong swing to the coalition, Mr Molan, a retired army Major General and adviser to the government on border protection, would be in with a chance.

The latest coalition ticket supersedes an earlier Liberal ballot which placed Ms Hughes on the top of the ticket.
