NSW election too close to call: Newspoll shows neck-and-neck race

Less than two weeks out from the NSW election neither major party has been able to build a large enough lead in the opinion polls, suggesting that whoever wins government after March's election will need the support of minor parties.

The NSW coalition government is neck and neck with Labor at 50-50 on a two party preferred basis, according to the latest Newspoll, published by the Australian on Tuesday.

It is a 4.3 per cent swing against the government from the 2015 election win with the coalition losing six seats.

The coalition's primary vote is at 40 per cent, up from 39 per cent two weeks ago and Labor is at 36 per cent, unchanged from a fortnight ago.

Gladys Berejiklian is still the preferred premier, at 41 per cent, and Opposition Leader Michael Daley at 34 per cent. But Mr Daley has closed the gap by six points since the last Newspoll.
