NSW detective charged with assault

An off-duty detective has been charged with assault after allegedly getting into a fight with other police officers at a southern Sydney shopping mall.
The senior constable is accused of being involved in an altercation with officers conducting an operation in Cronulla Mall on Saturday May 24.
He was arrested and taken to Cronulla Police Station and later released pending further inquiries.

On Friday the officer was issued a court attendance notice for assaulting a police officer, offensive language and attempting to re-enter premises after being made to leave.
He is expected to appear before Sutherland Local Court on Thursday August 7.
