Cyclist slams head into road going over bars

A Bryon Bay cyclist who dramatically flipped over the handlebars of his bike at 50kmph has been left with only cuts and bruises.

Anthony Condon survived the horrifying fall, which was captured by the GoPro camera of a fellow rider, relatively unscathed.

In the footage, which was uploaded on Wednesday, Mr Condon can be seen riding with a small pack of cyclists on a long stretch of a NSW freeway.

Mr Condon's bike runs over what looks to be an aluminium rod that lodges in the bike's front wheel stopping it instantly.

The force caused Mr Condon and his bike to somersault into the air and crash heavily on the ground.

Luckily for him, the quick reflexes of the riders behind him meant he was not run over.

Mr Condon's bike wasn't as lucky, with the video showing the high-speed machine nothing more than a mangled wreck.

The teacher and Byron Bay Cycle Club member was in good spirits after the accident, joking that the bike would never recover.

"Wow, body ok bicycle never to tour again," he said in a statement to Safe Cycling Australia.

"The body is mending, the bike is still pulling a sad face. Thanks for your wishes. Happy New Year. Anthony"
