Changes to daily COVID-19 case number reporting in NSW

The way COVID-19 cases and exposure sites in NSW are reported is changing from Monday.

NSW Health will now report one daily case total.

This will replace the current reporting which separates locally and internationally acquired cases.

"From Monday 15 November, NSW Health will no longer provide a breakdown of locally acquired and overseas acquired COVID-19 cases in its daily updates, but instead provide a total of all cases," a NSW Health spokesperson.

Due to quarantine-free travel in the state, the source of infection can no longer be accurately reported on a daily basis, NSW Health said.

NSW Health will still report the breakdown of locally and internationally acquired cases but in the weekly surveillance report instead.

"This breakdown of locally and overseas acquired cases will now be reported in NSW Health's weekly COVID-19 weekly surveillance reports."

International arrivals are required to have a COVID-19 test seven days after arrival.

This testing information will be used by NSW Health along with interviews and genome sequencing to monitor locally and internationally acquired infections.

Changes to exposure sites

Venues in regional NSW where confirmed COVID-19 cases have visited will no longer be reported either.

"NSW Health will no longer list all case locations on its website," a spokesperson said.

This change has already been underway in Greater Sydney for more than a month.

People will still receive an alert via the Service NSW app if they have been to a venue around the same time as a COVID-19-positive person.

Venues with significant transmission will be alerted on the website.

"NSW Health will however continue to contact people diagnosed with COVID-19 and their close contacts."

Local health districts may still post alerts for exposure sites on their social media, but unless there is a number of cases linked to the site, NSW Health won't be putting it on their website.

It comes as NSW recorded 250 locally acquired cases in the past 24 hours.

It is the first day with no deaths since August 23.

More than 90 per cent of NSW residents over the age of 16 are now fully vaccinated.
