Charging bull sends elderly NSW man to hospital

An elderly New South Wales man has been rushed to hospital after he was hit by a charging bull.

The man, in his 60s, suffered suspected head and shoulder injuries after he was struck down by the beast in Coralville, 60 kilometres south of Port Macquarie on the Mid North Coast.

Two crews ambulance and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the bull-charging incident, which was described as rare.

"It's not often we respond to a job involving a bull or an animal," NSW Ambulance inspector Joshua Smyth said.

"But thankfully the man was fully alert and talking to us which was a positive sign."

Emergency crews were alerted just after 8am today.

The man was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a stable condition.

"Initial reports suggested the man had been charged by a bull and knocked over," Mr Smyth said.

"You need to be ready for anything working around animals."
