Flash the koala survives the NSW bushfires thanks to volunteer animal rescuers

A tiny koala severely injured in the devastating NSW bushfires will live to climb another eucalyptus tree thanks to the tireless work of volunteer animal rescuers.

Flash nearly died from his burns sustained in the blaze at Taree on the mid-north coast and was so unwell he had to be sedated to undergo treatment.

But due to the care he is receiving at Port Stephens Koala's he is on the road to recovery.

He is one of four burns victims being treated at the wildlife rescue centre.

Also helping in the effort to rescue koalas after the fires is Bear, IFAW's koala detection dog.

He has been deployed to help search for surviving koalas who may have been injured during the fires in NSW and Queensland.
