Richie Sambora has responded after he copped it on social media for his NRL pre-game performance, saying “it’s ok if people don’t get where I’m going”.

The expectations were high for the 57-year-old founding member of Bon Jovi, who was joined on stage by Australian guitarist Orianthi, but he was quickly skewered on Twitter.

Sambora and Orianthi performed popular Bon Jovi covers, including Livin on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive.

This morning, Sambora responded to the criticism on Twitter.

Disapproval for the pre-game entertainment quickly turned to praise as Keith Urban took to the stage to perform with Jessica Mauboy.

The pair rocked out to Urban’s song ‘The Fighter’, wowing the crowds both at the stadium and at home.
