Notorious prison escapee John Killick parole conditions 'softened'

Notorious criminal John Killick has had his parole conditions softened by a Sydney court.

The 77-year-old man, who spent 15 years in a NSW jail for a string of armed robberies, is no longer required to wear an ankle bracelet.

Killick made international headlines in 1999 when his Russian girlfriend Lucy Dudko hijacked a helicopter at gunpoint and helped him escape from Sydney’s Silverwater jail.

The relaxed conditions mean Killick is also now allowed to see Dudko.

Earlier this year it was reported the pair had not seen each other for almost 15 years as Killick’s parole conditions forbade it, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“I want to talk to her about the books we are separately writing, but if nothing else, we need to clear the air,” Killick said in February.

“A lot has happened. I hope it would help both of us,” he said.

The elderly escapee was released from jail earlier this year after spending six months behind bars in Queensland.

His release followed extensive negotiations with Campbell Newman’s government after he was extradited to Queensland from New South Wales last year to face imprisonment for an armed robbery committed in 1983.
