Nothing can bring back our daughter: Meagher's dad

Jill Meagher's family has spoken out about her murderer after being forced to keep their silence while he faced court for three other rape cases.

Adrian Bayley was convicted today of the rape of two sex workers and a Dutch backpacker - two of which happened just months before be murdered Ms Meagher.

Jill's father, George McKeon, said the latest convictions show how much the justice system had let them down.

"As a family, we have until now been very mindful not to make any statement or take any actions that might delay the outstanding criminal proceedings against Gillian's murderer," he said.

"However now that these proceedings are completed, we want to try and obtain closure and to ensure that other families don't have to endure this trauma.

"Nothing can bring back our daughter."

He said the Victorian Parole Board had failed to protect his daughter and many others in the community.

Mr McKeon said his family, along with Ms Meagher's husband Tom, would continue to raise awareness of the systemic problem of violence against women including via the White Ribbon Campaign.

Included in Bayley’s convictions today was the rape of an 18-year-old sex worker in his car in St Kilda in 2000.

He raped another 25-year-old sex worker in April 2012, in near identical circumstances.

He also raped a Dutch backpacker in July 2012, two months before he attacked Ms Meagher, after telling her she was in danger and convincing her to climb into his car for safety.
